Threads of Hope Aisha’s Story

In Makindye Slums, FID transformed 16-year-old Aisha’s life from abandonment and despair to empowerment through shelter, vocational training, and a tailoring business.
At sixteen, Aisha faced a bleak future after a pregnancy and abandonment in Makindye Slums. FID provided her with safe shelter, meals, and support after her baby’s birth. Recognizing her potential, they enrolled her in a vocational tailoring program, where she discovered her talent and reclaimed her dignity.
FID’s holistic approach—combining shelter, skills training, and business support—empowered Aisha to become a thriving entrepreneur and a beacon of hope in her community.
Beyond immediate needs, FID equipped Aisha with a sewing machine and resources to start a tailoring business. Their literacy program boosted her confidence in managing finances and customer interactions. Today, Aisha provides for her child, lives in a secure home, and inspires others in Makindye with her resilience.
FID’s support included:
- Coordinating safe shelter and meal provision
- Vocational training in tailoring
- Providing tools and resources for a tailoring business
- Literacy programs for financial and social empowerment
Aisha’s journey from despair to self-sufficiency showcases FID’s commitment to empowering young women. Her thriving business not only supports her family but also lights the way for others in her community to dream big.
